To the Moon
Today, my Card of the Day was the Moon, and I asked it what I should know or do today. Now, this card is seen by many as a rather negative card, with connotations of deception, lunacy, fear, and confusion. But as I’ve often mentioned, there are no “good” cards or “bad” cards; they all have a spectrum of meaning. And as I pondered this card, a couple of meanings came to mind.
One, which arises from this card’s nighttime association, is “rest.” Considering that I hurt my back recently and it has been slow to heal since I’ve been loath to slow down, there seemed a great deal of wisdom in that advice. And as a result, my back is feeling better today.
The second insight I got from this card is a suggestion to use this restful time in reflection, to delve into the unconscious a bit. “Coincidentally” I happened to come across a link to a great “Sounds True” meditation video, which I listened to and then saved. In fact, I was happy to find that Sounds True has a whole series of videos on YouTube, which I might have passed over if I hadn’t been in “rest and reflection” mode due to my card of the day.

I really like the Moon Card perhaps that’s because I’m a Piscean :O)
It’s card that is somewhat mysterious, all that soft silvery light. I liked your interpretation of rest, night time being a time to kick back and relax a little.
I also liked your other interpretation, the Moon is a card that seems to me to indicate a need to go deeper int ourselves in order to understand those shadow aspects of ourselves and not fear them so much.
Hope you back is completely healed real soon!
Another Moon lover here.
Both the card and the one in the sky. Looking forward to the Solsice, which will not only have a Bright Moon, but a lunar eclipse as well. I agree about the rest and the time for delving. Many years ago an astrologer told me that the Sun in our horoscopes tells what we want, the Moon tells what we need, and the Ascentent tells how we go about getting it. So, if the Moon can tell us what we truly need, if we look deeply into her light-in-the-dark, then it behooves us to find that Moon-in-Ourselves and listen well to her.
Blessings on your back. May you find what you deeply need to heal it and take care of it in the future.
er… it’s “Ascendent”–apparently one rereading is not enough to see that stuff. I also wanted to say more about the Moon. I never could understand all that negative stuff about the Moon. That is, I could see that, but couldn’t understand why her vital place in our lives seemed to be ignored. Fear of the dark? Fear of the Dark-in-Ourselves? And yet, the dark is where seeds sprout and grow safely until they are strong enough to face the hazards of the day. It’s where dreams live until they are ready to be know… it’s the space where magic is rooted and grows in the Moon’s gentle light.
another “hope the back gets better soon” sentiment. I liked how you did step out the box here with the Moon. This is one of the few cards in the deck that can cause head scratching and a wonder as to which way to go with it. It doesn’t hit you between the eyes with a direction or interpretation and does sometimes need deliberation. You took the time to do that and showed how it can make perfect sense if we are prepared to not expect the answer to be instant.
Thanks Helen, Jesa, and Davina
I’m happy to hear from Moon-lovers about this card.
Although some people DO like this card, I’ve come across some very dire views of it, which is why I decided to post my interpretations of it when it came up as my CotD.
For me, the Moon has a lot of positive connotations that nicely balance the “negative” ones. For example, magic, enchantment, and imagination all work well with the Moon card.
Bright Blessings,
James
PS: Thanks for the well-wishes about my back. It’s sort of my “Achilles heel” (if you’ll excuse the strange anatomical mash up.)
