King of Coins / Pentacles — Spiritual Message of the Day
When I pulled this card today I was struck by how similar this king’s pose is to that of the Magician, which brings to mind the Magician’s maxim of “As Above, So Below.”
The spiritual message that I see in this card for today is that it’s not what you do so much as it is how you do it that matters. Spiritual endeavors are more defined by the loving intent with which we approach them than by their outward trappings.
Of course, doing something harmful is not going to be spiritual merely by thinking that you’re doing something nice. What I mean here is that you don’t have to start a soup kitchen or retreat to an ashram in order to travel a spiritual path. Starting a small business, for example, can be a spiritual endeavor too if you do it in a way that has integrity, fairness, and a spirit of generosity at its core. For example you might start a business that has a policy of producing products that are “cruelty free” and of paying a fair wage to its employees.
Keep this in mind today as you go about your life doing everything you normally do, but doing it all with a sense of compassion, kindness, and generosity of spirit.
