Youth / Page of Swords — Spiritual Message of the Day
In a previous blog post I said that keeping a “beginner’s mind” is important when we embark upon any journey of discovery. After all, how can we make new discoveries if we think we already know all the answers?
In addition, this innocent state of mind also lends us courage because sometimes naiveté means that we believe in miracles. For example, the image on the Youth of Swords card in my Tarot of the Masters deck was inspired by a painting by Dante Gabriel Rossetti called Joan of Arc Kisses the Sword of Liberation. Joan of Arc certainly exemplified the strength and courage of the time in our youth when we believed in our dreams. Everyone else “knew” that this young girl could not possibly lead the dispirited French army to victory, but since she herself never once believed that, she went ahead and did it anyway. Thus, one could say that her success depended to a great extent upon her naiveté. And so we can see in this card the advice to believe in your dreams.
