Pithy Tarot meanings — The Emperor

August 31, 2012

Emperor -- Tarot of the MastersThe Emperor:
“Our knowledge has made us cynical; our cleverness, hard and unkind. We think too much and feel too little. More than machinery, we need humanity. More than cleverness, we need kindness and gentleness.” — Charlie Chaplin in The Great Dictator

Note: I recently came across this quote, and I found it to be beautifully applicable to issues within the domain of the Emperor card. It isn’t quite as succinct as my pithy Tarot meanings usually are, but I think you’ll find its moving message to be just as useful as a reminder of this card’s meaning. However, if you do want something really pithy for this card, here are a couple of good ideas:
“It’s harder to be kind than clever.”
“Make sure that your efficiency doesn’t come at the expense of your humanity.”
PS: The heartwarming article where I found this quote (and the other pithy meanings here), is titled It’s More Important to Be Kind Than Clever.

Pithy Tarot card meanings are short, easy to remember meanings, and they will even stimulate further insights when called to mind during a reading. In addition, they can be fun.
