Four of Cups — Spiritual Message of the Day
“Most of us go through life not knowing what we want, but feeling darned sure this isn’t it.” — Unknown source
If the Three of Cups is the “party card” then we may see the Four of Cups as the “hangover card” — an indication of dissatisfaction that we might feel subsequent to indulging too much in the more trivial pursuits of life. As such, it can depict boredom and apathy or perhaps withdrawal into an emotional shell. On a deeper, more spiritual level, it can indicate a failure (or resistance) to find meaning in your life, as illustrated in this quote from The Heart of the Soul: Emotional Awareness by Gary Zukav and Linda Francis:
Boredom is your ‘fuller life’ calling you, and your fear of hearing that call.
On a spiritual level, then, this card reminds us that we should be looking within for meaning and renewal rather than searching for an artificial means of escape to distract us from our troubled soul.
Although our moods and emotions are constantly shifting, we can stabilize them by centering on our spiritual core. So if you feel a sort of dullness in your life as if you are stuck in a rut, take some time to sit quietly and listen for a higher calling. And don’t be afraid to listen for it, for there is much more to fear from not hearing it. After all, there is great truth in the saying:
The only difference between a rut and a grave is the depth.
