Nine of Coins / Pentacles — Spiritual Message of the Day

March 3, 2011

Nine of Coins / Pentacles -- Tarot of the MastersMuch of what I’ve written in these Tarot’s Daily Spiritual Message blog posts has been about your “inner space” — your heart and mind and soul.  But this card, the Nine of Pentacles, reminds us that our “outer space” is important for our spiritual progress too.  As Denise Linn says in her book Sacred Space, “Our homes are mirrors of ourselves,” and our inner selves and our home environments do reflect and affect each other.

This card’s message for today is to make your home a place of peace, comfort, and renewal. And no matter how modest your home is, it can be all that. (In my Tarot of the Masters version of this card, we cannot tell if this home is a simple cottage or if what we see here is but one little part of a mansion.)  Even a small cottage can be a warm, soothing environment, and even a mansion can seem cold and sterile.

So today consider questions like these:  Do you need to put your home into better order? Do you need to spend some time cleaning house? Do you need to throw out some junk? In addition, it’s important to remember that there are always little things you can do to bring a bit of beauty into your home. For example, are there a few wildflowers growing nearby that you can bring home to set in a cup on a windowsill?

Leaf Buds -- Fresh CutsA few years ago I bought a book called Fresh Cuts: Arrangements with Flowers, Leaves, Buds & Branches. It presents scores of simple ideas for arrangements of various sorts, many of which cost very little but look like a lovely still life painting, and has been an inspiration ever since for a bit of beauty in my home.

You might also want to learn more about Feng Shui, which tells us how altering our external conditions supports our inner growth and transformation.  In that case, you might be interested in one of the following books.  (I’m far from being an expert in Feng Shui, so if any of you have suggestions for better books, leave a comment, okay?)
