The High Priestess — Spiritual Message of the Day

March 23, 2011

High Priestess -- Tarot of the MastersEarlier this month, in my Tarot Exploration Group, I discussed the High Priestess card, and since I consider the High Priestess to be the archetypal Oracle, we talked about how the whole universe is Oracular. It’s constantly talking to us; we just have to be willing to listen.

The High Priestess represents the ability to hear the soft whisperings of the Universe.  People often think that’s because she’s special but that they can’t do this.  That’s not true; it just takes practice. The Universe constantly wants to communicate with us.  The Tarot is one particular tool to help us hear the voice of the Universe, but it certainly is not the only one. In ancient times, people saw portents and omens in the casting of runes and the flight of migrating birds. We too can hear the voice of the universe in everything.

To practice this, spend a moment in silent contemplation of the world around you. Breathe deeply, calm your mind, and get centered. Then look around you and consider the meaning behind whatever catches your attention.

“When you actually know the question, the answer is everywhere, and you can see it in anything you observe.” — Lon DuQuette

For more about this, I would like to refer you to Lon DuQuette’s Book of Ordinary Oracles wherein he shows us how to use ordinary items around the house—from pocket change to your TV remote control—to divine answer to everyday questions.  (I just have to warn you that Lon is funny and irreverent at times, but don’t let that fool you into thinking he isn’t wise or profound.)

If you enjoy these words of spiritual advice from the cards, you will love my new Tarot book called The Soul’s Journey: Finding Spiritual Messages in the Tarot
