Our unacknowledged psychic wounds stay with us until we bring the light of our attention to dispel the darkness that hides them. We can tuck these wounds away in the attic of our unconscious minds, but we can’t lock them in there. They peek out at us at night in our dreams and nightmares where they are disguised in symbolic costumes, which makes it hard for us to recognize them. The real problem, though, is that all too often they are pulling the strings that control our actions. Their manifestations include disease, dysfunctional behavior, and adversity attracted into our lives.

The way out of the pain they cause is to bring the light of our attention to them. We must be willing to look into the darkness in our lives and to ask for divine help and guidance in understanding and releasing it. When we do that, we awaken a bit more to our true divine nature.
