Six of Cups — Spiritual Message of the Day
“Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.” — Leo Buscaglia
In a blog post from last year titled Paying Love Forward, I mentioned that the Six of Cups advises us to transform our emotional connections with everyone in our life, even people who are only passing through. This includes the little things in life, like giving a warm smile to a beggar on the street. As Mother Teresa said, “Every time you smile at someone, it is an action of love, a gift to that person, a beautiful thing.”
Our love and compassion may be considered an offering we make to the Divine by offering it to everyone whose lives we touch. As Jesus said, “Even as you have done it to the least of these, you have done it to me.” This is a practice that can lead us to see the divine nature within everyone, but to do it effectively we must avoid worrying about whether or not other people love us in return. An offering of love must be made with no strings attached and no expectation of a reciprocal display of compassion. So just love other people with a smile or a sympathetic touch. Live a life filled with love and you’ll create a more loving world for us all to live in.
