Knight of Cups — Spiritual Message of the Day
“My strength is as the strength of ten because my heart is pure.” — from the poem “Sir Galahad” by Alfred Lord Tennyson
The Knight of Cups can indicate a spiritual quest. For example, my Tarot of the Masters version of this card was inspired by a painting of Sir Galahad, the Grail quest knight whose purity of heart, it is said, gave him the strength of ten. But do any of us have such absolute purity of heart? No, of course not. But it is an ideal toward which we may strive, and moreover, it is an ideal toward which our hearts will lead us if we listen. Our hearts can show us the way to find true happiness and fulfillment, but this is a message easily misinterpreted. It does not mean that our craving for someone will bring us true happiness. Actually, that’s usually not the case. Rather, it says that our love and compassion for other people fulfills us, and it’s our love and compassion that gives us “the strength of ten.”
