The Magician — Spiritual Message of the Day

February 24, 2013

Sevenfold Mystery Tarot MagicianBesides providing answers, the Tarot cards also pose questions that lead us to think about the deeper aspects of life. The Magician asks us to consider the question, “What is a miracle?” (Is it just a trick, is it an illusion, or is it real? And if it is real, where does it come from?)

To examine this question, let’s begin by considering the perspective of a two of humanity’s great minds, from antiquity and from modern times. Despite the fact that they are separated by a couple of millennia, the following quotes are remarkably similar. The first is from an ancient philosopher, Aristotle, and the other is from a modern scientist, Albert Einstein.

“In everything natural there is something marvelous.” — Aristotle
“There are two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle.” — Albert Einstein

From these insights we may consider the miraculous nature of existence to be a matter of perception. In fact, in her book A Return to Love, Marianne Williamson describes a miracle this way:

“[A Miracle is] a decision to see love where we had seen fear before. It’s a shift in perception, a return to love. “

Similarly, A Course in Miracles says:

“Miracles arise from a miraculous state of mind, or a state of miracle-readiness.”

MAAT Tarot MagicianWhat all this tells us is that we realize the miracles of life through our openness and willingness to perceive them. Also, when we view the world through the eyes of love, which is our highest mode of perception, we reawaken to our divine nature and we begin to see the miraculous nature of the world around us. At that point, we are able to see miracles unfolding everywhere and in every little circumstance of life. In fact, life itself is the original miracle (as we can see implied by the Magician card in the MAAT Tarot). We only have to choose to see it as such and all the other miracles will begin to appear.
