Tarot of the Masters -- Eight of Coins / PentaclesEight of Pentacles
“Chop Wood, Carry Water”
“Chop Wood, Carry Water” is a Zen Buddhist phrase that is short for “Before Enlightenment, chop wood, carry water. After Enlightenment, chop wood, carry water.” This means that with the achievement of an enlightened perspective, we still do the same work; we just do it in an enlightened way—with compassion, mindfulness, and joy; and as grist for the mill in our spiritual journey. So, this card asks you to consider if you’re just trudging through your everyday tasks or are you finding joy and fulfillment in every little thing you do.
