Pithy Tarot meanings — The World card

December 7, 2014

World card RWS2.0Here is a pithy meaning for the World card:
It is when we forget our self in service of others that we truly find our Self.

I have associated this pithy meaning with the World card inasmuch as it suggests that a selfless involvement in the material world around us (the aspects outside the wreath shape) can lead us to a realization of our true, spiritual Self (the “anima mundi” figure within the wreath).

Note that we may also associate this pithy meaning with either the Six of Cups or the Six of Pentacles, depending on how we view it. Do we consider it in terms of the charitable service itself? That suggests the Six of Pentacles. Or do we see it in terms of the compassionate feeling of an emotional bond—the “selfless” part of the statement which is also integral to the equation. That suggests the Six of Cups.
