What does the Tower card mean?

March 5, 2015

Tower card -- Tarot of the MastersThe Tower:
Anger is a way into the trap of our own private hell; letting go of it is our way out.

This pithy meaning raises a very important question: We all have a reservoir of anger inside of us that can bubble up (or erupt) inappropriately.  So just how can we let go of that anger?  Here is a suggestion:

First of all, realizing that anger is a problem is the first step to letting go of it. Then, once you realize that, you can make this commitment: whenever you realize that you are hearing the voice of anger in your heart, catch yourself and say, “I want to be free, so I let go of this anger.”

PS: In case you’re wondering why I associated this message with the Tower card, here are a couple of reasons. First, anger (“blowing your top”) can be attributed to this card.  Second, a tower can indicate a prison. (Recall both Rapunzel and the Tower of London).
