What does the Ten of Swords mean?

March 15, 2015

Ten of Swords -- Tarot of the MastersHere is a pithy meaning for the Ten of Swords:
Violence is the last refuge of the desperate.

This pithy meaning (which I’m posting today, March 15, as a sort of tribute to the Ides of March) is a paraphrase of one that I posted a couple of years ago. This reworking of that Asimov quote comes from incorporating a consideration of the following quote from President John F. Kennedy, which may work as a pithy meaning for this card too:

“Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable.”

Note that the violence referenced here can be a violence of thought or word; it’s not just about violence of deed.
