What does the Hierophant mean?

March 30, 2015

High Priest / Hierophant -- Tarot of the MastersHere is a pithy meaning for the Hierophant:
“Doubt isn’t the opposite of faith; it is an element of faith.” ― Paul Tillich

This quote may seem counterintuitive, but what follows is another way of expressing this sentiment that might shed some light on it:

Socrates is purported to have said, “The unexamined life is not worth living.” Similarly, then, we should see that “the unexamined faith is not worth believing.”
