What does the Four of Wands mean?

June 6, 2015

Tarot of the Masters -- Four of WandsHere is a pithy meaning for the Four of Wands:
Find or create sacred space in your life / in your home.

Why is this good advice? Because this will help you create the life for which your soul yearns.  Now, I must point out something here.  The word “sacred” makes people think that “sacred space” must be something religious, or maybe that it requires an altar or something, but that isn’t necessarily true. Joseph Campbell said that it is a dedicated space for “uninterrupted reflection and unrushed creative work.”  This means that it is a dedicated space in your life where you leave your everyday existence behind for a while. For more about this, I recommend an article titled “How to Find Your Bliss: Joseph Campbell on What It Takes to Have a Fulfilling Life.” See especially the following quote:

[Sacred space] is an absolute necessity for anybody today. You must have a room, or a certain hour or so a day, where you don’t know what was in the newspapers that morning, you don’t know who your friends are, you don’t know what you owe anybody, you don’t know what anybody owes to you. This is a place where you can simply experience and bring forth what you are and what you might be. This is the place of creative incubation. At first you may find that nothing happens there. But if you have a sacred place and use it, something eventually will happen.
