What does the Three of Swords mean?

My recoloring of RWS 3 of SwordsHere is a pithy meaning for the Three of Swords:
“Many [people] want to get rid of their painful feelings, but they do not want to get rid of their beliefs, the viewpoints that are the very roots of their feelings.” — Thich Nhat Hanh

Here is another way of making this point:
“You are never upset for the reason you think.” — A Course in Miracles
