What do the Lovers and Devil cards mean?

May 21, 2016

Today’s pithy Tarot meaning provides a comparison between Heaven and Hell (and a way to escape the latter and travel to the former).  It relates to the Lovers and Devil cards, which, in the RWS deck, bear a remarkable similarity to each other.  This pithy meaning is an explanation for that resemblance.

“Whenever we manage to love without expectations,
calculations, or negotiations, we are indeed in Heaven.
Whenever we fight and hate, we are in Hell.” — Rumi

.PS: Note the belly buttons (and lack thereof) in these two cards. This also symbolizes the fact that we are our purest, most spiritual selves when we love, and we are our base, material selves when we hate.

Note: Each of these pithy Tarot meanings is just one facet of its card. Find more of them on my Card Meanings page.  Also, get my Pithy Tarot eBook or the FREE app that uses my pithy Tarot meanings … and LIKE my Pithy Tarot Facebook page!
