What does the Ten of Swords mean?
This pithy meaning for the Ten of Swords was inspired by a beautiful article called “Why Play With Koans” which considers the question: “How would your life change if you stopped believing all of your thoughts?” and I recommend reading it. Briefly, though, here is a very short excerpt from this article:
Most of us … get committed to our worldviews and become extremely attached to our problems. [Consider thoughts like] “I’m always bad with math” or “I don’t enjoy music” or “my enemy hates me.” You can show kindness to yourself by disbelieving [them]. … When you really stop believing your thoughts, you notice that you have more gratitude, appreciation, and love toward life.
All this lead me to another, similar pithy meaning for this card:
Don’t let your beliefs define you.
