What does the Four of Cups mean?

August 12, 2016

Four of Cups from Tarot of the MastersHere is a pithy meaning for the Four of Cups:
You either numb your ability to feel or you don’t.

We think that we can selectively numb the emotions we don’t want but keep feeling the ones we do want.  But, no. We can’t do that.  That’s why joy, happiness, and love are so often numbed in our lives—because we work so hard to numb emotions like jealousy, pain, and fear.

This insight, which I have associated with the Four of Cups, is one that I discovered in a TED Talk by Brené Brown called “The Power of Vulnerability.”
