The Emperor suggests a way to live a happier life

March 5, 2017

Emperor -- Tarot of the MastersThere are many ways to use Tarot cards beyond the well-known process of doing a traditional reading. Here’s a way to create a happier life today using the Emperor card.

Years ago, I attended several workshops given by the late Don Michael Kraig. He used to open them with this quote: “Question authority; think for yourself.” (Note that this includes authorities you agree with as well as those with whom you disagree.) Similarly, I once wrote a blog post that (in brief) urged us all to make our own rules so that we might escape from the Empire of Should.

Sometimes we feel guilty because we aren’t doing what society says we should be doing or because we aren’t being what society says we should be. At other times, though, we feel sad or unfulfilled because we are doing or being what society says we should instead of what our hearts are telling us.

All this leads to the following suggestions for something you can do today:

Think about some of the “shoulds” in your life—things like the type of person that society says you should be or the things that society says you should have in your life. Then examine those “shoulds” to see if they really make sense. For any that you find aren’t valid, think about how you might change them and thus make your life more authentic.

.

Many of these suggestions from the cards about how to live a happier, more fulfilled life were inspired by my pithy Tarot meanings and others by material in my book, The Soul’s Journey. So if you like them, you might also like my books, The Soul’s Journey and Pithy Tarot.
