The Hermit card suggests a way to live a happier life

March 12, 2017

Hermit -- Tarot of the MastersThere are many ways to use Tarot cards beyond the well-known process of doing a traditional reading. Here’s a way to create a happier life today using a bit of advice from the Hermit card.

The aloneness that is a traditional interpretation of the Hermit card can indicate either valuable solitude or the sad gloom of loneliness. When we consider it in its sense of loneliness, it is valuable to realize, as I noted in one of my pithy meanings for this card, that our loneliness is just an illusion. But if it is an illusion, how can we see through it? To help you do that, here is a suggestion for today, courtesy of the Hermit card:

If you’re feeling lonely today (or even if you’re not), reach out to someone you know. Make a phone call; send a letter, an email, or a message on Facebook. You’re never really alone.

Of course, there’s another side of being alone.  In another pithy meaning for the Hermit, I noted that if we don’t learn to be alone, then we’re guaranteed to be lonely sometimes. So another suggestion from this card is this:

Improve your inner relationship with yourself by spending time alone in introspection—find out who you are, be non-judgmental about what you discover, and become better friends with yourself.

For more about learning how to be alone effectively, I refer you to an article called The Capacity for Successful Solitude.

Many of these suggestions from the cards about how to live a happier, more fulfilled life were inspired by my pithy Tarot meanings and others by material in my book, The Soul’s Journey. So if you like them, you might also like my books, The Soul’s Journey and Pithy Tarot.
