The Devil card suggests a way to live a happier life

March 24, 2017

Demons (Devil) -- Tarot of the MajorsThere are many ways to use Tarot cards beyond the well-known process of doing a traditional reading. Here’s a way to create a happier life today using a bit of advice from the Devil card.

It was a bit harder than usual to find a happy thing to do inspired by the Devil card. I first considered that one traditional meaning for this card is mirth, which suggests doing something that will make you laugh. Also, many people consider this to be the “party animal” card, which might suggest planning an indulgent night on the town. Although either of those are valid suggestions that you might take from this, I wanted to find something a bit deeper than that, so I kept searching through my inventory of meanings for the Devil card until I recalled this meaning from my book, Pithy Tarot:

Steer clear of people who indulge in negativity—they are psychic vampires.

Here, then, is a suggestion of how you can use this card to create a happier life:

Call to mind someone whose negative thinking sometimes sucks the fun out of your life.  Then consider how you can steer clear of him or her—or at least how you might avoid interacting with that person beyond a superficial level—and commit to that course. It might help to do a mental practice run of an imaginary interaction with that person. For example, visualize them starting in again, and then see yourself smiling pleasantly and saying something like, “Oh. I see,” as you then move away from them. (One trick to not letting a psychic vampire get to you is to deflect conversation with them.) If you can develop this practice, you’ll be less likely to fall victim to this psychic vampire, and that will certainly make your life happier.

Many of these suggestions from the cards about how to live a happier, more fulfilled life were inspired by my pithy Tarot meanings and others by material in my book, The Soul’s Journey.
