The Star card suggests a way to live a happier life

March 29, 2017

The Star -- Tarot of the MastersThere are many ways to use Tarot cards beyond the well-known process of doing a traditional reading. Here’s a way to create a happier life today using a bit of advice from the Star card.

First, consider this excerpt from the section about the Star card in my book The Soul’s Journey:

This card gains meaning from the traditional associations that we have for the stars in the heavens and the silent serenity that may come to us in the dark of the night.  Thus … the Star card represents the exquisitely beautiful power of silence.  We all understand that silence is an integral part of the practice of meditation, but it also may be used in a less rigorous manner in quiet contemplation of something, such as a flower, a scenic view, or a work of art.  The stillness in our hearts that results from such contemplation is invaluable for it is then that we feel the touch of the Divine.

This says that we can use an exercise of profound silence today to create a happier life. Here are several suggestions how to do this:

ONE:

We can find a profound and healing serenity in contemplation of a star-filled sky, so go outside tonight and sit quietly for a while gazing up into the starry sky.  Of course, this won’t work for those of us who live in a city where city lights drown out most of the stars, so I’ve included other suggestions.

TWO:

Silence can be a precious gift we share with another person, so you might want to find someone with whom you can spend a bit of quiet time.  You might want to have some physical contact, or you may not.  For example, if it seems right, lightly touch the other person’s hand.  However you decide to do this, do it silently, both externally and internally.  Try to quiet your mind as well as your voice, and don’t judge what is happening.  Let go of your thoughts, and just observe what you feel.

THREE:

If you can’t find someone with whom you can sit quietly for awhile, try it with a pet instead.  They love it and they’re really good at it.

FOUR:

If you don’t have a pet to do this with either, here is a final suggestion. Sit in quiet contemplation of something, such as a bouquet, a sunset, or a work of art.  Just immerse yourself in the beauty of whatever it is you choose to silently contemplate.

.

Many of these suggestions from the cards about how to live a happier, more fulfilled life were inspired by my pithy Tarot meanings and others by material in my book, The Soul’s Journey.
