The Judgment card suggests a way to live a happier life
There are many ways to use Tarot cards beyond the well-known process of doing a traditional reading. Here’s a way to create a happier life today using a bit of advice from the Judgment card.
There are many great quotes about the power of forgiveness, which I feel is the highest aspect of the Judgment card. This is my favorite one:
“Holding a grudge is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die.”
And here is another great one:
“To forgive is to set a prisoner free and discover that the prisoner was you.” — Lewis B. Smedes
Also, in the Judgment card section of my book, The Soul’s Journey, I talk a lot about the importance of forgiveness. Here is a short excerpt:
There are many reasons why we should avoid judging other people. For one thing, we probably don’t know what burdens they carry or what wounds they bear. (Consider the saying, “Hurt people hurt people.”) For another, judging others reinforces our illusion of separation, and buying into this illusion keeps us from Atonement. Furthermore, contrary to the popular notion, judging impedes our healing because it keeps us attached to the wound about which we hold a grudge.
So today’s happiness advice from the Judgment card is this:
Today, forgive someone against whom you’ve been holding a grudge. Just think of the person and the grudge, and then say to yourself, “I forgive you for doing this. I release this grudge so it will no longer prey upon my mind.” Spend a few minutes with that thought. At the very least, it’s a good start.
Finally, if you want some more thoughts about how to forgive, the following is a quote from a post about the Judgment card from last year:
Forgiveness comes when we realize that love and forgiveness are the same thing.
Forgiveness comes when we realize that we all have wounds that cause us to make mistakes.
Forgiveness comes when we release the label “evil” and replace it with “mistaken.”
Forgiveness comes when we realize that “Many of the faults you see in others are your own nature reflected in them” (to quote Rumi).
Forgiveness comes when we realize that we are all One in Spirit.
Many of these suggestions from the cards about how to live a happier, more fulfilled life were inspired by my pithy Tarot meanings and others by material in my book, The Soul’s Journey.
