The World card suggests a way to live a happier life
There are many ways to use Tarot cards beyond the well-known process of doing a traditional reading. Here’s a way to create a happier life today using a bit of advice from the World card.
Today, I thought I’d start with a pithy meaning for the World card that I posted here a few years ago:
It is when we forget our self in service of others that we truly find our Self.
Similarly, consider this quote:
“The best way to cheer yourself up is to try to cheer somebody else up.” — Mark Twain
Why is it that helping others creates such a sense of fulfillment? And why do we become happier when we concentrate on cheering up someone else? There are many reasons, and here are but a few:
- Helping someone else takes us out of our own problems.
- We are all One with one another. As John Donne famously said: “No man is an island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main.”
- We have a deep-seated desire to help other people. (There is scientific evidence that altruism is inherent in us since it enhances the survival of the species.)
Whatever reason you choose to believe, the fact remains that helping someone else will make you happier. Consequently, today’s happiness advice from the World card is this:
Do something for someone else. It can be a random act of kindness to a stranger. It can be a bit of generosity toward someone you know. Just find a way to cheer somebody else up, and you will cheer yourself up too.
Many of these suggestions from the cards about how to live a happier, more fulfilled life were inspired by my pithy Tarot meanings and others by material in my book, The Soul’s Journey.
