The Three of Wands suggests a way to live a happier life

April 15, 2017

Three of Wands -- Tarot of the MastersThere are many ways to use Tarot cards beyond the well-known process of doing a traditional reading. Here’s a way to create a happier life today using a bit of advice from the Three of Wands. Let’s start with the following quote from the section of my book, The Soul’s Journey, that deals with this card:

The fact that the Three of Wands directly follows the struggle for dominion in the Two of Wands leads to some advice about resolving our interpersonal conflicts.  … We need to take a long-term approach to problematic relationships… One way to heal a conflicted relationship with someone is to do something for them that is compassionate and generous.  It is important, however, to do this without any expectation of reciprocation or even appreciation.  … Such acts are not intended to curry favor with the other person.  Instead, the point is to change the basic energy of your relationship in order to transform it from a source of conflict into a wellspring of blessings.

Based on this, my happiness suggestion for today is this:

Think of someone with whom you have a somewhat conflicted relationship that you would like to heal. Think of something you can do for them, something that is compassionate and generous. Then do it, and do it without any expectations about how this will affect your relationship or about how that person will respond. Just do it because it’s the right thing to do and doing so makes you a better person.
