The Ace of Cups suggests a way to live a happier life

Ace of Cups -- Tarot of the MastersThere are many ways to use Tarot cards beyond the well-known process of doing a traditional reading. The following are a couple of ways to create a happier life today using advice from the Ace of Cups.

First, here is an excerpt from the section of my book, The Soul’s Journey, about this card which concludes with a suggested exercise:

According to most religious traditions, one of the primary elements of right living is universal love. … Universal love comes from the realization of our oneness with everything.  It is the purity of heart that sees beyond distinctions between people.  It is of oneness and unity, not divisions and separation.

It is hard for us to rediscover our sense of union when we are living in a culture that exalts an illusory sense of separation, but there are many ways to cultivate unconditional love and to practice this purity of heart.  For example, try the following exercise for one day to see how it feels and how it affects your life.

Every time you encounter someone—whether it’s a loved one, a friend, a casual acquaintance, a stranger, or even an enemy—silently say to that person, “I love you.”  This thought of love will probably be easy if the other person is a member of your family, it may feel a bit awkward when the other person is a stranger, and it can be very hard to do when the other person is an adversary of some sort.  However, the amount of benefit this will bring into your life and into the world is highest in that final case.  Also do this whenever you even think about someone else.  For example, this may be someone you hear about in the news or someone from your past who comes to mind for any reason.  Try to make “I love you” your first thought about other people, and as you do this, you will find your life drawn toward the light of unconditional love, which is the essence of your innate, divine nature.

Second, here’s another suggestion from a blog post called “Better Living with the Tarot Aces”:

Feel love. Here’s what I mean by this:  Studies at the Institute of HeartMath have shown that merely focusing our attention on a loving memory and its associated positive feelings a few times a day promotes good health. So spend a few moments now and then with a memory of a loving experience.
