The Six of Cups suggests a way to live a happier life

June 13, 2017

Six of Cups -- Tarot of the MastersThere are many ways to use Tarot cards beyond the well-known process of doing a traditional reading. Here’s a way to create a happier life today using a bit of advice from the Six of Cups.

The reciprocity of the Sixes and the compassion of the suit of Cups combine in this card to urge us to create a better world and a better life through random acts of kindness. Here, then, is a suggestion for a way to make your life happier today, which is an excerpt from a previous blog post about the Six of Cups:

Be nice and friendly to the people you encounter working in stores, such as the clerks, cashiers, etc. If you ask someone for help, say “please” and “thank you,” and when you say thank you, look the person in the eye and say it from your heart with feeling and great sincerity. The perfunctory “thank you” we usually give doesn’t really do it. When you are at the checkout stand, ask the checker “How is your day going?” and say, “Have a nice day.”  Things like that.  I know this all sounds very simple, but you may be amazed at the results.  Not only will this brighten someone else’s day, it will lift your spirits too.

Here is another suggestion for today based on the fact that the Six of Cups is also associated with nostalgia:

Think of something or someone from your childhood that you are nostalgic for. It might be a childhood friend, a TV show you used to love, or a book you enjoyed. Whatever it is, try to get in touch with that memory again. Contact that old friend if possible, find an episode of that TV show on YouTube, or look for that book in the attic or at the library.
Note that this exercise uses a bit of advice that I mentioned during my discussion of the Ace of Cups:
Studies at the Institute of HeartMath have shown that merely focusing our attention on a loving memory and its associated positive feelings a few times a day promotes good health.
