The Knight of Cups suggests a way to live a happier life

July 14, 2017

Knight of Cups -- Tarot of the MastersThere are many ways to use Tarot cards beyond the well-known process of doing a traditional reading. Today’s advice for how to create a happier life comes from the Knight of Cups. We may interpret this card as actions (Knight) of the heart (Cups), which may suggest that we should follow the advice of our heart.  Or, as one of my pithy meanings for this card says:

Pause, reflect, and then act upon the intuitive wisdom of your heart.

When we are overwhelmed by problems that we don’t know how to handle, we may feel lost and bewildered. It can seem like we have been thrown off course like a ship tossed about in a storm.  Things like depression, financial difficulties, or frustration with a relationship can do this. At such times, it helps to let your heart show you how to regain your bearings and find your way.

Here, then, is a way to make your life a bit happier today:

First, take a break so you can relax and breathe deeply, focusing your concentration on your breath. Then reflect upon a difficult issue you are facing. Don’t judge it (or yourself) and don’t try to think of a solution, just bring it to your awareness calmly and lovingly. Then listen for the intuitive wisdom your heart, and let it show you how to proceed.

Perhaps you are now experiencing a difficult time, in which case this is a valuable exercise.  But even if you are doing okay right now, it can be valuable to practice this technique so you will be better able to use it when you really do need it. In that case, you can use any problematic situation in your life, even if it is not traumatic.
