The Ace of Swords suggests a way to live a happier life

August 10, 2017

Ace of Swords -- Tarot of the MastersThere are many ways to use Tarot cards beyond the well-known process of doing a traditional reading. Here’s a way to create a happier life today using a bit of advice from the Ace of Swords.

This card indicates the wondrous power of thought and the singular importance of awareness.  From Ram Dass (Be Here Now) to Eckhart Tolle (The Power of Now), the message of modern spiritual leaders is increasingly clear: spiritual enlightenment arises out of a state of awareness that comes from living in the present moment as we focus our attention on the here and now.  This may sound difficult to attain, but here is an easy suggestion that will help you practice focusing on the here and now.  It arises from a new way of perceiving something:

You know those “mindless” tasks you need to do everyday—washing dishes, sweeping the floor, dusting, raking leaves, etc.? Those are not boring or onerous tasks. They are wonderful opportunities to practice mindfulness.

Today, every time you engage in one of those tasks, commit to focusing on what you are doing instead of thinking about other things. If your mind wanders off (and it will), gently refocus it on your task the moment you notice it wandering.

If you want more inspiration for this, I recommend this interview with Pancho Ramos-Stierle: “An Atheist on the Spiritual Transformation of the World“.
