What does the Death card mean?

June 12, 2018

My recoloring of RWS Death cardHere is a pithy meaning for the Death card:
“Life is like getting into a boat that’s just about to sail off to sea and sink.” — Shunryu Suzuki Roshi

I know this sounds like a rather dark and dour interpretation of this card (which would not be too surprising), but I discovered it in a lovely article titled “How to Befriend the Universe” in which a woman named Emily Levine offers “a brilliant, funny, bittersweet, large-hearted meditation on the existential art of befriending our finitude as she faces her own terminal illness.”

I recommend reading the article or viewing the 15 minute video there.
