The Ace of Pentacles suggests a way to live a happier life

April 28, 2019

RWS 2.0 Ace of PentaclesThere are many ways to use Tarot cards beyond the well-known process of traditional readings. Here’s a way to create a happier, more fulfilled life today using messages and advice from the Ace of Pentacles.

“It is when you become grateful for what you have that you become an abundant person.” — Marianne Williamson

The Tarot Aces embody the essence, epitome, and ideal of their suit, and (among other things) the suit of Pentacles is about gratitude. There are many ways to cultivate a sense of appreciation and gratitude.  It can be as simple as saying a silent “Thank you” whenever something nice happens. Or, as a man named John Kralik discovered, it can be deeper and much more complex than that.

Kralik wrote a book called 365 Thank Yous: The Year a Simple Act of Daily Gratitude Changed My Life. At a time when his life when things were going badly for him, Kralik had an epiphany:  Instead of focusing on what he didn’t have, he would find a way to be grateful for what he did have. His way of doing that was to write one “Thank You” note every day.

Using Kralik’s method as inspiration, here is a suggestion for a way to bring more happiness and abundance into your life:

Surprise someone today with a note of thanks.  It will make their day as well as start you on the road to your own abundant life.  You may also want to start a Gratitude Journal, which serves a similar purpose. Every morning (or every night before going to bed) write down three things for which you are grateful.

There is another aspect of the Ace of Pentacles that inspires a suggestion for something you can do today. This card is also about finding the magic in the mundane, which I explain in a blog post about this card. Here is a suggestion based on that:

Take a moment now and then to look for the magic and the beauty in simple, mundane things around you. For example, as you wash dishes, notice the pattern on the plates, the cool feeling of the water on your hands, and the music in the sound of utensils clinking together. Or, while you’re warming up a meal, perhaps you can take a moment to savor the aroma of the food and to appreciate its beauty. Also, listen for the symphony of birdsongs when you are walking outside.

There are so many activities in our day that can seem repetitive or tedious. Today, watch them bloom into something beautiful under the gaze of your full attention.  For inspiration watch this short film called “Seeing.”
