Pithy Tarot meanings — Queen of Cups

Queen of Cups detailQueen of Cups:
“With marriage we are saying Yes! to the unknown as well as the known.” — Roger Housden

Currently I am reading a lovely book by Roger Housden titled “Twenty Poems to Bless Your Marriage” where I came across this quote.  The author goes on to say, “This is why marriage is a sacred pact: we are entering a mystery.”  This discussion reminded me of the Queen of Cups, a card that I sometimes see as a Marriage Card.  Other cards can indicate that rite of passage too, but I thought of this one due to Housden’s mention of the unknown. In the RWS deck’s suit of Cups, the cups icons are all rather simple and uncovered except for the exaggerated example of this Queen.  Her cup is covered, and quite elaborately so, which implies the mysteries of love and relationships, along with the advice to embrace them.  Thus, this card tells us to say Yes! to those mysteries.
